Board of Selectmen
Minutes 6
May 4, 1998
PUBLIC
Mrs. Lynch also indicated that Dr. DeMoura, Superintendent of
Schools will be leaving his position on June 30, 1999. He has not
requested an extension of his contract to date.
In addition, the School Committee will be working on the FY2000 budget.
Dr. DeMoura is presently addressing the School budget. It was noted that
approximately 80%of the School budget is comprised of salaries.
Lake Management Committee representatives,Bill Marsters, and Jim
McGonagle were present to request the Board place the discussion of
Lake Management on their next agenda. *Approved.
i
As a result of the excessive rain, the pond level is critical. Mr. McGonagle
requested that the flow boards be removed to provide relief. Every river in
southeastern Massachusetts is overflowing with the exception of the Mashpee
River explained Mr. McGonagle, Chairman of the Lake Management
Committee.
It is the consensus of the Selectmen to review the site with representatives
from the Division of Marine Fisheries. The matter will be placed on the
Selectmen's agenda of Monday, May 18, 1998 for further review.
Horseshoe Bend Way resident Roy Woodard related concern with respect to
the proposed location of the jail/correctional institute. It was noted that the
Torun of Falmouth invited Sheriff DeMello and the Ashumet Valley residents
to discuss this matter at their Selectmen's meeting last week.
Mr. Woodard requested the Board invite the Sheriff to the next Selectmen's
meeting to address residential concerns relative to the location proposal.
*Approved agenda item to be held as a public hearing with representatives from
the MMR.
In other business,Mr. Woodard and nearby resident Joseph Dellagala stated
that the police fail to recognize their neighborhood community. The area is often
depicted as part of Falmouth, and there is often little representation from
Mashpee to address area concerns.
Mr. Dellagala was directed to submit his concerns in writing to the Selectmen.
