A <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 6 <br /> June 8, 1998 <br /> APE01NT_M_ENTS AND HEARINGS <br /> Sheriff DeMello -Proposed Prison SiteDisgussjoty- (continued) <br /> Selectman Caffyn related concern with regards to the proposed site <br /> selections in the proximity of area neighborhoods. The issue of lighting <br /> was also addressed In addition, Selectman Caffyn indicated that three sites <br /> were selected, and the Town of Mashpee was not consulted with regards to <br /> the site selection process. <br /> It was noted that the new correction institution is expected to house <br /> two hundred and fifty inmates. The site locations in the area of the Falmouth <br /> gate and sewerage treatment plant are approximately 4/1Oth's and 6/1Oth's <br /> of a mile from area neighborhoods. The base is an area of approximately <br /> 22,000 acres. <br /> Joseph Dellagala, a Mashpee resident in the area of the proposed site location <br /> related concern with respect to properly devaluation. Mr. Dellagala indicated <br /> that he feels like a prisoner in his own neighborhood as he referred to the site <br /> proposal and of homes that have not been sold because of the pollution and air <br /> traffic. <br /> A Falmouth resident living near the gate voiced concern to the increased traffic, <br /> and suggested the correctional institute be buried within the reservation and <br /> away from area residents. <br /> Roy Woodard, a resident of Horseshoe Bend Way,Mashpee stated that the <br /> prison location proposal is within the present flight path. He stated that he <br /> is bothered continuously by the whistling of recirculating pumps, and the noise <br /> from the airplanes. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to authorize the Executive <br /> Secretary to draft a memo to Sheriff DeMello on 6/9/98 in opposition <br /> to the present site proposals. Concerns relative to safety, property <br /> values, lighting, traffic, and proximity to area homes will be addressed. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Frye. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br />
