s
August 18, 1998
To the Honorable Selectmen of the Town of Mashpee: Nancy Caffyn, Curtis W. Frye, David
Leveille, Kenneth E. Marsters, Wayne E. Taylor:
We,the undersigned, are the elected committee of The Mews Village Patio Villas Homeowners
Association and Directors of The Peninsula Council, which consists of the seven villages in New
Seabury.
We respectfully request the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Mashpee to hear our opposition
to the extension of Liquor License and.Sunday Entertainment to the Mews Conference Center,
consisting of approximately 1,225 square feet with a seating capacity of 150, at the Public
Hearing to be held Monday August 24, 1998, at 7:30 p.m. in Conference Room# 1.
We would like to call to your attention the fact that the Board of Selectmen of the Town of
Mashpee rejected a similar request on May 22, 1989, and their rejection was upheld by the
Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Among the reasons this extension of the liquor license to include the Mews Conference Center
should be denied is the total lack of parking space assigned to the Mews Conference Center.
Also, there is only one narrow curved road leading into and out of the Mews Village (92
homeowners and over 80 condo units), as shown on the attached map of the area. The increased
traffic would create a public hazard.
The quality of life would be destroyed by the additional traffic, noise and inconvenience in a
neighborhood , developed and marketed on the basis of its quiet privacy.
Respectfully
Mi m F.
