I
BOARD OF SELECTMEN
MINUTES - REGULAR SESSION
MONDAY, MAY 21 , 1990
PAGE THREE
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
#3 (Cont. )
Mr. Cullinan discussed DEM's proposal relative to the new
Town Beach. It is proposed that in May, 1992, after
completion of the road and the new .town beach, DEM .will be
in a position to enter into a land exchange. The dune
restoration project ( including the removal of the parking
lot) would not be complete until May, 1993.
Mr. Hanson stated that he is still opposed to the project
and that the residents should be able to vote on the issue
in October at the Annual Town Meeting.
Mrs. Jacobson asked whether 20 - 30 parking spaces could be
set aside in the current parking lot. DEM stated that this
is not possible and the reason is a management safety
issue. The access road to the existing town beach would
cross a pedestrian trail for those using the State
reservation. Mr. Kirsner stated that there should .be a
reservation of these spaces and that until the dune is
actually being restored, some arrangement be made for
residents to use the parking lot for visual purposes. Mr.
Kirsner added that DEM as the owner of the land, would not
violate their rights from an environmental point of view if
they permit. residents to use the area during the off-
season.
Mr. Vontzalides, Counsel for DEM suggested that this issue
be dealt with on an annual basis.
Mr. Carter suggested that the South Cape Beach State Park
Advisory Committee prepare written recommendations relative
to the proposal and submit to the Board of Selectmen. A
response will then be forwarded to DEM.
