BOARD OF SELECTMEN page 2 MINUTES AUGUST 6, 1990 Annointment of Conservation Commission Member: Chairman Patrick J. Coffey made the recommendation to appoint Renee King Fudala by unanimous choice twice of the, Conservation Commission. She has a B.S,.. in Wildlife Management and a Masters in Environmental Science. Her credentials are extensive and she would be of great value to the Commission. There is no violation of the state conflict of interest law and. he feels there will be no conflict of interest with her husband as Town Planner. Selectman Lawrence objects. He feels certain appointments are dishonest morally and intellectually. - His objection was not to Ms. Fudala° s appointment specifically, but to any, dual appoint- ments to the Commission or Boards in Town. The motion was made by Selectman Hanson to appoint Renee King Fudala as the new full-time Conservation Commission Member. Select- man Jacobson made second the motion. The four Selectmen voted in favor of her appointment with Selectman Lawrence opposed. (4-1) :Fire Dept. Revised Operational Guideline for Popponesset Island: Deputy Baker gave an update regarding emergency fire and rescue operations on Popponesset Island. . With 'increased summer use of the island, it is necessary to move the 1957 brush breaker and pump to the island. Highwood water is provided for use. in the winter, the brush breaker will be unloaded on the island and taken. back to the station. The trailer. will be left on the island. With the age of the truck, it will not survive the winter months. Selectman Jacobson asks if a resident could supply a garage for the winter months. Deputy Baker says there is not a garage large enough for the fire truck and there is no funding for a pick-up truck with fire apparatus. There may be a garage available -to house the trailer for the winter months. The Selectmen approve of Fire Chief Ridgeway' s recommendations. Finance Committee - Fiscal Status: Finance Committee Chairman James Vaccaro and Kevin Harrington spoke of the Town' s fiscal status, They are working to resolve and close fiscal 90. They are pleased to report the sum of $460, 000 is available for appropriation for the balance of the. fiscal year which is between now and June 30, -1991. There is a known deficit of $86, 000 for Falmouth High School . tuition for FY 90. The school department has underestimated enroll- ment figures. The projected FY 91 shortfall could be as much as $230, 000 or_.a..rrinimum: of $100, oo0.
