BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 5 MINUTES AUGUST 20, 1990 7:45 p.m. Ernie Vir ilio re: Road Takin s: Mr. Virgilio presented a new approach .for town road problems. Every year, he would make a selection of roads in deplorable shape for the town .to take. The roads for this year include Quaker Run Rd. , Jackbon Rd., and Lighthouse Lane. The total estimated project is approximately $406, 600. Several residents attended the meeting and are pleased to hear .the town is coming in and taking their roads. They agree. the roads are in bad shape and repairs will improve the neighborhoods. Mr. -Virgilio will prepare an article for the annual town meeting. The Selectmen unanimously approve of an article for town .warrant. 8 : 00. p.m. Desi22ation of Special Munici al Em to eels; Since .May of 1983, the town members have been designated as special municipal employee' s. Chairman Carter made the motion to redeem special municipal employees in the town. The Board of Selectmen are special municipal employee' s but not designated as such. . This stands for town' s with a population of 10 ,000 or more. The current population of the Town. of Mashpee is approximately 9, 500. Selectman Lawrence is opposed to this. He feels special municipal employee' s are not necessary. Selectman Jacobson would like more information on this matter. Mr. Harrington will gather more information on the subject. Letter of Resignation from T. „ Deane Be. . : Mr. Beggs has submitted a resignation dated August 3rd to the Board of Selectmen. He is resigning from the Mashpee Elementary School Building Committee. Selectman Hanson made the motion to accept Mr. .Beggs resignation. Selectman Lawrence made- second the motion. The vote is unanimous. Appointment .of Assistant Town Planner: Tom Fudala, Judy Mills and the Personnel Board have interviewed several condidates for this part—time position and have unanimously recommended B. Charnan Bray as their top candidate. The money is within the budget for- this half time position. Kevin Harrington is concerned about employment .commitments for next year. With the current financial problems in the town, a contract may be more suitable, ie. -commencing in September and terminating in June of 1991. Mr. Fudals feels Ms. Bray should be notified honestly of the situation and contract conditions before she is hired. He feels his department cannot operate with out an assistant. .
