BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 4 MINUTES MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1990 Article #22: Appropriation of $14, 500 to the Library CLAMS account. Selectman Gottlieb feels the town cannot afford this at this point. The motion was made by Selectman Gottlieb to follow the recommend- ation of the Finance Committee to indefinitely postpone this article. Selectman Hanson seconded the motion. The vote of the Board is unanimous. Article #23 and Article #24 : Selectman Hanson feels this is a growth problem with the Fire Department. They need more room for the equipment that is needed. Selectman Gottlieb feels this is the best looking building the town has, at least it' s. physical appearance. Selectman Carter questions the sub-station. Selectman Gottlieb- states the plan is to expand the building over the next five years;fhis will justify the need for a sub-station. From an operational point of view of where the calls are, it does not make sense to have a sub-station. The motion was made by Selectman Hanson to support Article #23 and Article #24. Selectman Gottlieb seconded the motion. Selectmen Carter* Jacobson and Lawrence oppose these articles. The vote remains 2 in favor and 3 opposed. Article #2j: A - vehicle for the Fire Chief. The Board would like to seek another ,option of vehicle allocation to get both departments through the next few years. Selectman Hanson feels the article should read fully equiped for his services. The motion was made by Selectman Hanson to . support this article. Selectman Carter seconded the motion. Selectman Jacobson 'is also in favor of Article #25. Selectmen Lawrence and Gottlieb oppose. The vote is 3 in favor and 2 opposed. Article #27: The Board is in agreement that the money owed to Falmouth High School should come out of the School Committee' s budget. Selectman Hanson reminded the Board of the $120, 000 that was returned from last year. He feels if the School Committee would have known this, they would have paid it. Selectman Lawrence feels they should have known that and funds should not be taken from other town budgets. This article is still needed states Selectman Gottlieb to pay for the fiscal 89-90 debt. Fiscal 91 and 92 should come out of the school budget. Selectman Carter doesn' t think the school department is trying to work with. the Board of Selectmen. Kevin Harrington feels this is. a smaller issue compared to the projected debt of Fiscal 91. Selectman Lawrence made the motion not to support Article #27. Selectman Carter seconded the motion. Selectman Jacobson also favors her vote for the motion. Selectman. Gottlieb is opposed and Selectman Hanson did not cast a vote. The vote is 3 in favor of not supporting the article and 1 opposed.
