z BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 2 <br /> MINUTES <br /> MONDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1990 <br /> Step Increas for Patrolman Scott E. McCabe: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb made the motion -to approve a step-wage - <br /> increase for Patrolman Scott E. McCabe effective November 2, 1990. <br /> Selectman Lawrence seconded. the motion. The Board votes in <br /> a unanimous decision to approve the increase of the fourth year <br /> police officer. <br /> Letter of Resignation from Patricia Hicks: <br /> Selectman Jacobson moved to accept the. resignation of Patricia <br /> Hicks as office manager of the Assessors Office with great regret. <br /> Ben Lofchie will discuss the position with Kevin Harrington <br /> this week. The retirement date is effective on December 31, 1990, <br /> but she will be leaving the position at the end of October with her <br /> allotted vacation time. <br /> The Selectmen agree she has been an asset and a very loyal and <br /> devoted employee. <br /> Freeze on Hiring: <br /> Selectman Lawrence has recommended the Board of Selectmen have <br /> an immediate freeze on hiring for the. next two weeks regardless of <br /> the position. <br /> Ben Lofchie feels this would handicap our assessing with less <br /> personnel to do the job. Chairman Carter noted this is not the intention <br /> of the Board, to freeze the hiring of a replacement office. manager. <br /> .Selectman Carter would like to schedule a general meeting with <br /> the Board to discuss the freezing and financial aspects. He would <br /> like any comments regarding layoffs to come from. the Board of Select- <br /> men. He also notes the finance committee members are entitled to <br /> their own opinion. <br /> Selectman Lawrence made the motion for all positions in the <br /> town to be on hold for the next two weeks until a decision has been <br /> reached by the Board. <br /> Selectman Gottlieb seconded the motion. The Board votes in a <br /> unanimous decision to freeze hiring for the next two weeks regardless <br /> of the position. <br /> The Board has agreed with Chairman Carter' s decision to invite <br /> other department heads to the meeting. <br /> 7: 26 p.m. Oyster Regulations Hearing: <br /> Shellfish Warden Paul Somerville reviewed the 1990 Oyster Harvest <br /> Regulations with the Board of Selectmen. He anticipates 30-40 permits. <br /> Three weekends are allocated to obtain the oysters. The harvesters <br /> may .only fish one day per weekend, but the permit is good for all <br /> three weekends. <br /> The Mashpee resident/taxpayer permit fee is $15. 00 and the non- <br /> resident fee is $30. 00. These are non commercial permits. <br />
