BOARD .OF SELECTMEN Page 3
MINUTES
MONDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1990
Oyster Regulations:
Since there is a limited harvest area, Mr. Somerville states
regulations- prohibit more than two persons from harvesting oysters
under one permit.
Permit holders are allowed to harvest one. level. peck per week-
end.. Mr. Somerville will. be available to .monitor the permits so
permit holders do not. harvest a second day on the weekend.
The motion was made by Selectman Gottlieb- to approve the 1990
Oyster Harvest Regulations as proposed. Selectman Jacobson seconded
the motion. The Board votes in a unanimous decision to approve the
regulations.
i
7: 32 p.m. Mr. Jim McGonagle re: State Boat Ramp Regulations: .
Mr. McGonagle presented the problems at Mashpee Wakeby Pond
and the State boat ramp. Due to budget cuts, the state is no longer
able to take charge of this problem.
McGonagle feels the Bass Association has total domination of
the pond and fishing is encouraged around personal property resulting
in area thefts. He would like to keep the fishermen away from personal
property (within 50' ) and keep the speed limit to 50. m.p.h.
Selectman Jacobson agrees with Mr. McGonagle. The ramp can be
regulated and the Police should patrol the area. Permits should
not be issued for more than 30 boats, parking should not be allowed
at the Town Hall and the Police should ticket any vehicles parked
improperly.
Selectman Gottlieb feels Mr. .McGonagle has made some good points.
Some can be dealt with and others can't. The bass fishermen should
be educated on the problems they create. Selectman Gottlieb would
like to extend the season with an attendant present with set hours.
He also agrees we have the right to ticket and tow unauthorized
vehicles. He has offered to make proposals on this subject matter
and will schedule . a public hearing on this issue.
For the time being, Chairman. Carter will notify the Harbormaster
to patrol the area and send a memo to the Police Department on
enforcement. Selectman Carter also notes there are no spaces for
handicap parking.
Conservation Commission re: Resignation of an Associate Member:
Selectman Gottlieb made the motion to approve the resignation
of Claire H. Lavin Friel as an Associate Conservation Commissioner
to be effective immediately. She has a. position as Assessor with
the Board of Assessors and that will be her top priority.
Selectman Jacobson seconded the motion. The Board votes in a
unanimous decision. Selectman Carter has asked Kevin Harrington
to advertise for her replacement.'
Senior Center Buildin 'Committee: 'Four Letters of Interest;
Kevin Harrington has suggested rive members service this committee.
