�s BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 2 ' MINUTES MONDAY, DECEMBER 17t 1990 Public Water '- Great Neck Road South: Following Selectman Gottlieb' s suggestion, Chairman Carter has asked Kevin Harrington to obtain the facts and figures of the cost factors involved. Conditioned upon the figures of the lesser amount for water, Selectman Jacobson made the motion to approve the reopening for water to the residents of Monomoscoy Island and Okway Bay. Selectman Lawrence seconded the motion. The decision is unanimous with the Board. Grievance of Gail McDonald: Serving as Hearing Officer, Joseph Reardon has recommended the. grievance be upheld and the decision of the department reversed with instructions to pay Ms. McDonald a regular days pay for the Columbus Day holiday. Section 2a is applicable to dispatchers and the contract language in 2a and 2b need not be ammended. The motion was made by Selectman Gottlieb to support the Hearing Officer' s recommendation to uphold the grievance complaint of Gail McDonald. Selectman Lawrence seconded the motion. The Board votes in a unanimous decision to uphold the grievance of Ms. McDonald. Grievance of Jean Lundquist; Hearing Officer Reardon has recommended the grievance appeal be dismissed of Jean Lundquist who smokes at her desk. She feels she is being discriminated against. The Building Inspector has determined that her office is not a private office and the grievance does not involve race, creed, color or religion. The motion was made by Selectman Jacobson to recommend the dismissal of Jean Lundquist' s grievance as recommended by the Hearing Officer. Selectman Gottlieb seconded the motion. The Board votes unanimously in favor. Selectman Gottlieb would also like to upgrade the enforce- ment of no smoking in public buildings. Memo from the Fire Chief requesting to fill vacant position: Based upon the new guidelines set forth by the Selectmen, the request to fill the vacant position in the Fire Department was subitted by Chief Ridgeway for the Board' s consideration. Selectman Jacobson feels it would cost more in overtime funds than to fill the vacancy in the department. The motion was made by Selectman Lawrence to accept the request to fill the position of Provisional Firefighter. Selectman Gottlieb seconded the motion. The decision of the Board is unanimous.
