i
i
Design Review Committee -2- June 23, 2000
2. 5 Sugar Pines Drive — Darrell C. Bloomer - Family & Cosmetic
Dentistry
The applicant Bloomer has produced a site plan. There is a newly constructed
addition to the office building. It is measured at 51 feet back from the property
line. The current sign location is set back a bit and is difficult to see, but the
applicant would prefer to save the existing vegetation as a noise barrier fronting
Great Neck Road South. A utility trench has been dug, which has already
removed some of the vegetation. As for the sign fronting on Great Neck Road
South, the Committee would advise the applicant to seek an off-premises sign
permit from the Selectmen's Office.
There are two basic signs, including a smaller one of 2.5 square feet. The signs
are wood carved, and the colors used will be green and blue. The second and
smaller sign is intended merely as a turn-in directional sign at the end of the
Bloomer driveway at 5 Sugar Pines Circle. Since 5 Sugar Pine Circle is the legal
address, the Committee advises placing the numeral "5"within a circle on both
signs. The applicant's intention is to keep the signs looking residential in
appearance.
There is an existing 10-foot telephone easement on the front yard of the appli-
cant's property; therefore, the sign should be in a moveable form for access
purposes.
The sign fronting at Great Neck Road South will be lit by ground lighting. The
applicant must be careful to locate the ground lighting so as not to allow the
light to shine through to the other side and into the oncoming traffic.
The Committee advises the applicant Bloomer to file with the Building
Department, who will then issue an application.
