Personnel Board
Minutes of April 12, 1982 Page 2
• Grace Maddox stated that she told Pat Green. She explained that the Executive Secretary
knew that she was sick. Now everybody is telling her to take bereavement leave.
Mr. DeLory explained that he disapproved the bereavement leave when he found out it was
not someone in the immediate family who past away.
Curtis Woodbury pointed out that the time taken was not reported originally on the weekly
payroll voucher ending March 5.
Grace Maddox told the Personnel Board that the Board of Assessors meets on Tuesday even-
ings and signs the vouchers for the week and that Pat Green makes out the payroll vouchers.
Bob Sullivan asked if that was part of Pat Green's function.
Mr. DeLory replied that Grace Maddox makes out the payroll vouchers and not Pat Green.
At this point, Mrs. Maddox (who is currently out on jury duty) referred to another request
for a vacation day on April 5. She explained that she would like that to be a personal
day instead of a vacation day.
The Personnel Board secretary replied that there has been no request for leave filed with
the Personnel office.
Caroline Gilligan asked Grace Maddox how she could take a personal day if she was on jury
• duty?
Grace Maddox told the Board that she was not taking a day off from the jury.
Caroline Gilligan asked her why she had to take any personal time for jury duty?
Grace Maddox replied that whatever you get from the Court you have to turn over to the
town.
Joe Murphy explained that what Grace was trying to do was to make money on jury duty. In-
stead of receiving the difference between her jury pay and what the town will pay her, it
is Grace's desire to take time accumulated and keep the jury pay -- in effect making money.
Caroline Gilligan stated that you et our a from the town and at the end of the jury
C g Y g Y pay
session, you turn your check from the county into the town.
Grace expalined that she felt she could do whatever she wanted on her vacation time or
personal time off.
Bob Sullivan replied that if she did this then there would not be any split. He also
stated that he did not know if there was anything that could be done to prevent her from
doing that unless something were changed in the contract. The other Board members were
in agreement. Grace was asked to send in the proper paperwork to the Personnel Board.
• Getting back to -the time which was taken during the week of March 5, Bob Sullivan stated
that he slid not know if Pat Green had the responsibility to say that Grace could go home
sick.
Grace asked Bob what he meant?
