Personnel Board
Minutes of April 12, 1982 Page 3
. Bob Sullivan stated that someone has to have authority to know where an employee is at
all times. And evidentally in Grace's case, it was Pat Green who was informed.
Grace replied that nobody from her Board would know as it is a part-time Board.
Curtis Woodbury asked if she did tell her Board on this ocassion?
Grace replied again that she was not at work on Monday and Tuesday.
Bob Sullivan stated that someone needs to authorize the hours as the hoursreported were
not the hours actually worked. The Personnel Board needs verification.
Grace replied that she wanted five sick days for that time, Friday (2/26), Monday (3/1),
Tuesday (3/2), Thursday (3/3) and Friday (3/4).
Curtis Woodbury asked if the hours had been submitted. to the Town Accountant and if she
received her pay?
The Executive Secretary replied that the Town Accountant paid Grace pending resolution.
Curtis Woodbury then asked that a corrected voucher be submitted to the Personnel Board.
Bob DeLory stated that he would see to it that this were done.
Bob Sullivan felt that there was a deeper rooted problem as nobody knows whether an em-
ployee is in or out.
Grace told the Personnel Board that when a person is sick, they cannot use two hours or
one hour. When she comes to work and is not feeling well, she tries to stick it out. if
she can't stick it out, she will tell Pat Green that she is going home at 1 o'clock or
two o'clock. Grace stated that she preferred to put down full days as being out sick so
that there would not be any confrontation.
Bob Sullivan stated that it was a policy thing. The Town needs to run a tighter ship.
Curtis Woodbury asked what happens when both Grace and Pat were out sick?
Grace replied that the office would then have to be closed.
Bob Sullivan voted to give Grace the five sick days as requested. Curtis Woodbury and
Caroline Gilligan were in agreement. They felt that so long a period had elapsed and that
there would not be a way to check.
Joe Murphy mentioned thatlogs can be maintained.
Curtis Woodbury suggested putting that subject on the agenda„ for a future meeting.
Grace Maddox replied that that would be a breach of contract as there is nothing in the
current contract which states that an employee would have to keep a log. She stated
that she should not be treated Like a kid.
Joe Murphy explained that keeping logs would protect an employee possibly against-fraud.
• Curtis Woodbury again stated that he felt the subject of tightening up should be taken
under advisement. He asked how other departments run?
Grace replied that they do not go home just to be going home.
