Possible solutions are tying in other users to increase flow, could truck in wastewater
from other locations.
There is also a concern because there is some corrosion and rust on the grill and the
stand holding the grill. A 10 ft chain link fence is currently there and barbed wire has
been added to the fop for safety.
Future of the wastewater treatment facility: based on the recent town meeting article,
the town will now take over all facilities as of July 1, 2009, including the treatment
facility. The School department is working on a Memorandum of Understanding with
the town:
- the town can discharge into the facility, or whatever other sewer system comes on
line, at no cost.
- the town cannot make alterations to the schools or grounds without consent of the
School Committee.
Tom said this is the first he has heard that the town will take over the plant. Who will run
it?
Ms. Bradshaw said DPW is going to manage all the facilities, who does the actual work,
she does not know.
The members viewed, on a map, where the new Zone II delineation is.
Tom said the new permit requires ultra violet treatment. Has anyone looked at the extra
cost of that?
Unified Water has not yet responded regarding those cost estimates.
Jeff does not think it will be a lot of maintenance or cost.
Ms. Bradshaw thanked Tom for commenting on the draft permit.
Tom asked for a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding. Ms. Bradshaw said it is still
in negotiation but will send it to him if she can.
Tom mentioned that they are still interested in use of the ball fields. Would that be a
school committee decision? Yes it would. Ann explained the School Committee does
not want to block anything but they need to be concerned about the use of the ball
fields-would they be torn up.
November 3, 2008 Sewer Commission will be meeting with the Board of Selectmen,
Water District and Finance Committee. There is no agenda for this meeting.
Should S & W be there? Tom would be more comfortable having Stearns and Wheler
there.
Jeff suggested Tom contact him after he sees an agenda.
Stearns and Wheler Invoice- for$10,030.
SMaST invoice for $40,548.
Tom finally received the signed paperwork from SMaST.,
** Don made a motion to sign the invoice for the two mentioned invoices (S & W
and SMaST).
Tom seconded the motion. All members were in favor 2-0.
