Chapter <br />4413, §5, for the purpose of funding the construction and installation of the Mashpee Veteran War <br />Monument II; 0 Great Neck Road South/Route 130, including any site preparation and all other necessary <br />expenses as related thereto, as recommended by the Community Preservation Committee, or take any <br />other action relating thereto. <br />Submitted by the Community Preservation <br />Committee <br />Explanation: The goal of this project is to construct a Veteran War Monument to honor and pay tribute <br />to Mashpee Veterans to include the wars from Operation Desert Shield to the War in Afghanistan. This <br />includes; Operation Desert Shield, Desert Shield, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Freedom's <br />Sentinel, Operation Enduring Sentinel, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn, a total of <br />350 names of Mashpee Veterans to date. <br />The granite monument is proposed to be shaped as a wave with the memorial title centered on plexiglass <br />with a dry-stone water feature. Adequate spacing would be included on the monument to add names <br />initially omitted. <br />The site at the Community Park would be landscaped to include native plantings, lighting, paths, <br />benches, and walkways. A lawn berm would be added for noise reduction and bio-retention along Route <br />130 to begin at a low rise to approximately 5' to bring a sense of calm and quiet to the monument.
