Is Sandwich influencing this parcel as
protection of Peters Pond?
It was stated Sandwich has expressed interest. If Mashpee were to put a plant there, and
Sandwich were to hook up there would be an intermunicipal agreement.
Lynne Barbee- She swims in Mashpee Wakeby. She used to swim in Waquoit Bay; she
wouldn't put hertoes in there now. We need to focus on Waquoit Bay. She would like to see
that back as a priority. There is a Citizens of Waquoit Bay meeting on Thursday evening.
Mr. Tobin stated his understanding is this is a potential alternative, not necessarily a final deal.
Ms. Waygan commented about the 100's of pages from the Wastewater Management Plan,
the needs assessment, and the state's approval. She put her trust in another Town Board to
follow that plan. Why has it changed, especially something like that? When we modified the
plan for our new phase 2, there was tons of outreach, this room was full with standing room
only. It didn't change the order or phases; you would need a public hearing. The public input in
the needs assessment of the management plan was unbelievable. The Sewer Commission is
a completely different Board, she doesn't want to speak for them, the work that went into that
is incredible, but for people to take a sharpie and change it is starting to get annoying. Public
outreach, notification, and consensus for this to happen in the shadows, is offensive. There
are people who would not vote for wastewater in this town, and people speaking here that sit
on this Board went out and changed the minds of Mashpee. We had a 7-year delay in starting
this project and a 40% increase in costs over Covid. Now, for the very people who supported
this, to be kept out of the loop of new plans is actually offensive. We need to respect one
another and the work that has been done on this for decades. She door-knocked to get that
first vote, and spent her own money on private postcards, that the town didn't feel it needed.
The action of this Board should be to come to Town Hall tomorrow at 3:OOPM.
Joe Binette- He wanted to remind the Board when he helped lead the Senior Project that
involved trash removal/waste/dumping sites from woods and trails, to help deal with the illegal
dumping problem the town was facing at the time. He would love to see this be added to the
open space plan as an outlet for the Seniors, he expressed how many students were excited
but it could never take off due to liability.
CHAIRS REPORT
Report on Chair's Activities
Starting in September, all future meetings will start at 6:30PM, unless otherwise noted.
MOTION:
9
