7 Town of Mashpee Conservation Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
w$XJI:YYF.µ'1
property transferred, with the Board of Health requiring an executed
contract as part of its compliance review. He assured the Commission
that he would personally oversee the process and guarantee the contract
was executed. Commissioners were satisfied with this clarification
MOTION: To close and issue a negative determination for 87
Bayshore Drive.
Motion by: Sandi Godfrey Seconded by: Sarah Thornbrugh
Vote: Motion passed by unanimous vote.
(Steve Cook, Sarah Thornbrugh, Paul Colombo, Sandi Godfrey)
RDA 100 Lakewood Drive, Martin Kofman. Proposed installation of fence.
(Representative: Mallon Land Surveying)
• The proposal was to replace and extend an existing fence for privacy and safety. The new six-
foot PVC fence would run approximately 109 linear feet along the northerly property line, set
four inches above grade, with a gate installed for access. The work would take place within an
existing lawn area above the inland bank, within the buffer zone.
• Ms. Thornbrugh asked whether existing posts could be reused, but Mr. Mallon explained that
all posts would be replaced with new ones. Mr. Colombo raised concerns about the lack of
clearance on the existing fence, including wire mesh that blocked wildlife passage. Mr. Mallon
confirmed that all unauthorized fencing, including wire along the bank, would be removed.
• Discussion focused on the required six-inch clearance for wildlife passage versus the proposed
four-inch clearance for child and pet safety. Mr. Mallon explained that the homeowner's
concern was preventing children or pets from slipping under the fence and falling down a steep
slope to a concrete wall. He suggested four inches as a compromise between safety and
passage. Commissioners debated whether wildlife could still move freely under four inches.
Mr. McManus clarified that if the fence were a full enclosure, passage opportunities would be
limited regardless.
• Ultimately, the Commission reached a compromise: sections of the fence enclosing the yard
would be set four inches above grade for safety, while the portion running toward the stone
driveway would maintain six inches. Mr. Mallon agreed to revise the plan accordingly. The
Commission also confirmed that wire fencing on the bank would be removed, protecting
vegetation and allowing natural passage.
MOTION: To close and issue a negative determination with
agreed revisions for 100 Lakewood Drive with requested changes.
Motion by: Sandi Godfrey Seconded by: Sarah Thornbrugh
Vote: Motion passed by unanimous vote.
(Steve Cook, Sarah Thornbrugh, Paul Colombo, Sandi Godfrey)
Page 3
