Seconded by Mr. Oakley. All in favor.
Vote to send Regional Policy Plan Comments to Cape Cod Commission
Ms. Waygan read the Growth Policy Statement. She stated the LCP will get rejected because it
doesn't allow for enough growth. It should be appropriate to say we have zoning for
development that meets our needs.
Mr. Balzarini inquired about the threshold for the amount of homes Mashpee's infrastructure
can support, along with the water and traffic.
Ms. Waygan noted under finite resources, we should suggest development should be
responsive to context, allowing for the restoration, preservation and protection of our unique
and finite environmental resources, while promoting economic and community resilience. She
noted the Tribe is very present and the protection of our environment in all its natural beauty
with all the culture and history is important. She likes the term livable communities with small
town culture, but she struggles to find wording for that. She added, growth should be focused in
centers of activity and areas supported by adequate infrastructure and guided away from areas
that must be protected for ecological, historical, cultural, and other reasons. We have living
history.
It was noted the development by Mashpee Commons is not keeping with the character of
Mashpee.
Ms. Waygan stated we are on this pathway that activity centers will have standards and
technical bulletins. Increased density should always be accompanied by offset of open space.
They talk about increasing density, but no real mitigations. There should be a high priority for
redevelopment. Mr. Tobin added the importance of arts and culture did come up in One Cape.
All comments are due September 24tn
Board Engineer Search
Mr. Pesce will work for the next 30-60 days, there is a bid for a procurement officer.
