Town of Mashpee Sewer Commission
t
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
o Tools and equipment have arrived
• Furniture for the office
o Being procured through construction contract
• Rate system
o Established and published on Town's website
• Utilities to serve plant
o Electric, gas, water, Open Cape fiber
System Supports are Active to Support Wastewater System Operation
(PowerPoint)
Customers Connected
• Communication campaign launched
• Connections will start with three (3) large users:
o Summerwood
o Sea Oaks
o Asher's Path Apartments
• Grinder pumps are being fabricated for Phase 1
Commissioner Lyons asked when the delivery on the grinder pumps start. Wastewater
Superintendent Meader answered that the first batch has already been shipped. These are the
duplex chambers going to the condos and the rest will come in 10 pumps.
Chair Harris asked if any of the condos will be delayed until the grinder pumps arrive.
Wastewater Superintendent Meader answered that the first delay is waiting for the approval
letter and then, in Summerwood, Sea Oaks and Asher's Path, where there are gravity systems,
they can start connecting. Four (4) of the units in Sea Oaks require the duplex grinder chambers
and those would be the only ones that may experience a slight delay.
Chair Harris asked if the system was ready to go. Mr. Drainville and Wastewater Superintendent
Meader answered that the fire alarm system, the occupancy inspections have all been done.
Mr. Drainville states that there needs to be 10% of the flow to sustain a biomass and with the
three developments (Summerwood, Sea Oaks, and Asher's Path) that 10% would be achieved
as they have been described as being sufficient in maintaining a healthy microbial environment.
Mr. Drainville expressed that the three developments are important to get the system started
but the importance to have others tie-in is that 10% is not enough to put the system through its
testing and so having 50-60% is important for the Town to see that this equipment is
performing adequately while under the 1-year warranty. Chair Harris responded that the 90-
day hookup is important because if the number of hookups are not in place, then the system
will not be functioning as expected. Mr. Drainville added that there is a warranty through the
manufacturer and the contractor, which is one-year period so it is important to put the system
through its testing with a decent amount of load coming into it and long-term confidence in the
system will be obtained. Wastewater Superintendent Meader clarified that in order to get to
the 50% - approximately 60,000 gallons per day, the first three developments bring in a total of
32,000 gallons a day (estimated off of their water use records).
