,yrxrasr.a
Town of Mashpee Community Preservation Commission
" 16 Great Neck Road North
° Mashpee, MA 02649
Recent Clean Water Projects
The CPC highlighted recent projects addressing water quality. These include:
• Mashpee-Wakeby Boat Ramp (state ramp): $350,000 allocated to stormwater management
improvements (not yet started).
• Ashumet Pond: $550,000 awarded for alum treatment to reduce phosphorus and control
cyanobacteria blooms. The alum project is expected to occur in spring, while the boat ramp
project is awaiting additional funding. Joint Base Cape Cod will reimburse the town for 50% of
the alum treatment costs.
Open Space Acquisition
• In fiscal year 2025, the town purchased a seven-acre property at 475 Nathan Ellis Highway
(Route 151). This land includes over 400 feet of beach frontage on John's Pond and lies at the
head of the Child's River. A building on the site is under consideration for future community
use.
Historic Preservation Initiatives
The committee reviewed several historic preservation projects:
• The Parsonage: A tribe-owned historic building near Town Hall that is being renovated with
the support of a contractor, architect, and tribal oversight.
• Chopchaque Cranberry Storage Barn: CPC funded the purchase of the parcel and now the
Historic Commission is asking CPC for the funding for a feasibility study to determine the
structure's condition, renovation potential, or relocation options.
• Ancient Burial Grounds: Several historic cemeteries in town, at the request of the Historic
Commission, were restored, including gravestone cleaning, tree removal, and new fencing.
DPW did the majority of the work. Sites include two on Route 130, one on Meeting House
Road, and another in the Lakewood neighborhood.
Recreational Improvements
Recreational projects supported by CPC include:
• Heritage Park: Another phase of the parks upgrades and renovations to include a new
concession stand under construction; the old stand will be repurposed for storage. Also being
used for this new concession stand are funds that were raised. DPW is carrying out much of the
work.
• Quashnet School Playground: Recently upgraded and renovated.
• Boys and Girls Club Basketball Court: Rebuilt; completion pending fencing and striping.
2
