The Library Director met with the DPW Director, Facilities Manager, and IT
Assistant Director to discuss carpeting in the Children's Room. Everything was
looked at from power outlets to painting and carpeting. The project start date is
set for the end of December, beginning of January. This will take three weeks, but
they schedule four weeks, should a storm require snow removal, or in the event
of some emergency. The new desk will require ports, call buttons, and a
walkthrough. The Children's Room will be closed in the month of January, and
items will be moved into the Event Room. The Conference Room will serve as a
children's space for a small collection and programming.
The Friends have put aside $100,000 to replace three service desks in the
library, and the cost per desk is $30,000-$35,000. The Library Director will need
to identify a desk for purchase. The goal is to have a square modular structure on
wheels. Shelving will be replaced as the renovations move along, and going
forward, everything will be portable. The entire room will be freshly painted, and
the lime green accent will be replaced with a cool blue to match the carpeting.
A notice will need to go out to the public ASAP saying the library will not be taking
any meeting room reservations forthe month of January, active reservations will
remain.
MOTION:
Ruth Nickerson made a motion to temporarily close the Mashpee
Public Library meeting room reservations to the public, until further
notice, and revisit reopening upon completion of the Children's Room
renovation project, at the January/February Library Trustee's meeting.
An announcement will be made once reservations open again.
Seconded by Mary LeClair. All in favor.
Roll Call Vote:
Ruth Nickerson — Yes Ann Macdonald — Yes Joan Lyons-Yes
Beth Geatrakas — Yes Mary LeClair— Yes Kate Milde — Yes
The current software vendor, Userful, is going out of business, will no longer
provide enhancements, and will just maintain until 2026. That left the Library
2
