Select Board
December 8,2025
Minutes

for both projects have been coordinating and sharing plans, and several design
modifications have been made since the conceptual plan was previously presented.

One key revision includes reducing the footprint of the roundabout while maintaining access
to the Mashpee Country Store.

Selectwoman Kelley-Wilson expressed concern about pedestrian safety, noting that the
existing tra?ic signal, with pedestrian timers, has been instrumental in allowing safe
crossings. Laurent responded that the plan includes pedestrian refuge areas within the
crosswalks and potentially three locations equipped with rapid flashing beacons. Laurent
noted that state law requires vehicles to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Assistant Town Manager Wayne Taylor questioned whether the right-turn lane from Great
Neck Road North onto Route 130 is su?iciently wide to prevent vehicles from encroaching
into adjacent lanes. Laurent responded that the design accommodates two vehicles and
acknowledged that driver attention will still be required. Laurent noted that the existing
tra?ic signal currently operates at a failing level of service and that the proposed roundabout
would significantly improve tra?ic flow. She added that the design remains subject to Board
direction and potential revision.

Assistant Town Manager Wayne Taylor stated that the di?erence in tra?ic performance
identified in the tra?ic study was substantial enough to support moving the project forward
and encouraged Board members to review the study for additional context.

The Town Manager reiterated concerns about pedestrian safety and suggested that a signal
or other pedestrian-focused control may still be needed.

12
