of TMs s,s
z.
Aannin Board
c
16 Great Neck Road NOYth
.wlashpee, Aassachusetts 02649
9:OOPM, 7 days a week. This says 95 trips on weekday morning, 108 trips on a weekday
afternoon, and 166 trips on midday Saturday. To her, this generation underestimates the total
weekly trips.
Ms. Sullivan stated these figures represent hourly trips, not daily. Again, basing this on peak
ti mes.
Ms. Faulkner continued that Trader Joes is special, there are no other stores like it. Everyone
loves Trader Joes; it is a destination. Any Trader Joes produces traffic, the parking lot is chaos
with aggressive drivers and people who don't look when they back up. She would like to take a
comparable store, maybe Hyannis, but on a state road with high congestion.
Mr. Bogosian stated Trader Joes has their own team of consultants to verify sites.
Mr. Milbury stated Bowman's report shows no significant impact on traffic, but Shellback Way
is going to be a mess.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Alan Peterson- He lives in Sea Oaks and he went to Trader Joes in Hyannis to count the
number of cars in that parking lot. Of the 117 spaces, there were 117 cars, with a continuous
circling of cars waiting for someone to leave. That parking lot turns over once an hour, more
than 1,400 cars per day. Is that what we want with Chipotle and the new apartments? This
traffic presentation was relevant 40 years ago. Uncontrolled growth is a problem we have. This
traffic issue has to be fixed now. We love Trader Joes, but it has to go somewhere else.
David Gale- He lives in Deer Crossing and he has a long list of comments. In the latest issue
of The Enterprise, there is an article on this development, and Mr. Bogosian was quoted
saying he had an approval from Mass DPW. What's concerning, if you look at the studies, so
much is dependent on this curb cut. He thinks it will be a mess with that curb cut, but what if
there is no curb cut? Those problems can be multiplied by 5 and it will be a nightmare. He
understands study's and projections, but he also uses his eyes and common sense, not to
mention living above this area. He has never seen the traffic pattern shown tonight. The clip
was missing real traffic and should have included sound. In the Police Blogger from the
newspaper last week, there were 4 crashes between Jobs Fishing Road and Shellback Way.
The Police had to come and cars were towed. What will we see in summer? Look at
mitigations on traffic study. Trader Joes is great- in another spot.
John Miller —When this proposal initially came, the access to this lot shared the driveway that
Rockland Trust uses. That plan was withdrawn, and that access point went away. He doesn't
know the reasoning, maybe Rockland Trust doesn't want to share? Both the Cape Cod
Commission and their subcommittee endorsed this recommendation, citing 8-10 areas of
10
