of TMs s,s
z.
Aannin Board
c
16 Great Neck Road North
.wlashpee, Aassachusetts 02649
The data was collected during the highest generating hours, and on peak Saturday conditions,
showing a little less than 2 cars per minute. That collection shows results from one hour.
The model results show level of service, delay, and intersection capacity. Overall, operations
show morning, afternoon, and Saturday, with existing conditions, future without the project,
and future build with the project. In looking at existing capacity, in the future with no project
there is room for capacity and room for traffic. The build to no build has minimal changes in
overall operations and level of service compared to no build.
A graphical view was shown for each peak hour, and the vehicles display as white and red to
in the simulation. As a result, in the afternoon there was one additional vehicle with less than a
5 second delay at that approach. On Shellback Way with no build conditions, and with the
project, shows one additional car on Shellback Way, 2 additional on Falmouth Road, and one
additional south bound, and showing less than 5 seconds delay on Shellback.
Saturday was critical and highest generating, with 3 additional vehicles on Shellback Way, not
passing that Rockland Trust driveway. No additional vehicles are showing from Falmouth with
a 5 second increased delay on Shellback Way. These times are all peak summer.
The Cape Cod Commission incorporated safety improvements at 6 intersections that had
crash rates with over 3 crashes a year. The offsite safety improvements are upwards of
$250,000.
1. Intersection at Shellback Way and Charles St.: Improvements were made to update
pedestrian walking times, update push buttons and pedestrian equipment. Clearance
intervals are modified to allow adequate time for vehicles to clear the intersection. The right
turn in and out will have flashing beacons to notify drivers someone is looking to cross. A
sidewalk will be constructed along Shellback Way along the frontage of the site and to the
Shellback intersection, connecting to the bike path on Rt. 28. This factored in the build out
of Mashpee Commons and the currently constructed Chipotle.
2. Intersection at Rt. 28 and Ashers Path/Orchard Rd: There are a high number of rear ends,
so there will be mitigations to offset traffic, for example installing advance warning signage
to indicate the intersection.
3. Intersection at Rt. 28 and Meetinghouse Rd.: Mitigations include advanced warning
signage and trimming vegetation, another high rear end site.
4. Mashpee Rotary- A lot of accidents at entrance points, mitigations include striping.
5. Intersection at Rt. 28 and Jobs Fishing Rd.: Mitigations include lane designation, signal
timing adjustments, advance warning signage, and yellow arrow.
6. Intersection at Rt. 28 and Red Brook Road: Mitigations include vegetation trimming and
advanced signage.
5
