of TMs s,s
z.
Aannin Board
c
16 Great Neck Road NOYth
.wlashpee, Aassachusetts 02649
The Historic Commission voted to designate the bog house as a historic resource, so that
should be listed. The CPC cannot designate it's money towards something until it is classified
as a historic resource.
Ms. Waygan accepts Ms. Costello's comments on 6.3 regarding burial grounds, the Historical
Commission requested the ancient burial grounds be named accordingly: Bourne Cometary,
Coombs-Amos-Avant, and Attaquin and Pocknett remain the same. Codes listed as NRIND
mean National Register individual.
Ms. Costello gave an opportunity to add historic educational opportunities or programs to all.
She also noted a challenge in keeping up with current knowledge of grant writing, archival
practices, and current technology for providing historical presentations and programs.
She also noted to add the additional War Monument that is in progress to honor all from
Mashpee who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm.
Ms. Faulkner corrected a typo on page 1-38, Goal HP-6.
Ms. Waygan stated page 6-4 does a nice job talking about scenic landscapes, ocean and
saltwater ponds. She would like to add the Mashpee River Woodlands, the famous scenic spot
from the Town Seal. This is a noted scenic landscape of the Mashpee River, with access via
the Mashpee River Woodlands in Mashpee Neck, with notable Trout Pond. The woodland has
a rock dedicated to Ed Baker. You can also access via River Road before the Children's
Museum, on the left side of the dead end has a trailhead to the Mashpee River. There are
other notable scenic views of Mashpee Pond from Lake Avenue, Santuit Pond via the Santuit
Pond Reserve, and John's Pond at the John's Pond Park. Another historic pond to note is
Moody Pond, however there is no good parking, but people walk from their homes.
Ms. Waygan would like to do a breakout box for Trout Pond, the Mashpee Environmental
Coalition has something about this pond in their library.
Mr. Hansen also added that Trout Pond has an extinct variation of bats, possibly the Brown
Nose Bat. It is along historic Quaker Run. Ms. Waygan would like that history researched, that
is allegedly where the Quakers would seek refuge in times of trouble, and Tribal members
would help them to safety.
4
