IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road -Vorth-
MasGtpee, M-A 02649
Rodney Collins, he found out the cemetery is expanding. He then spoke with the DPW
Director, Catherin Laurent, who informed him of the Cemetery Commission. His proposal has
been submitted to the Commission, it may require a Town vote, but he will continue to follow
protocols. In connection with the expansion, he was invited to the next meeting, and he asked
Mr. Kupferman to join him.
Tribal Representative
The Select Board wants Tribal representation on MIDC. Winnie Johsnon- Graham currently
serves but has Tribal responsibilities that take precedence at the moment. In figuring out how
to handle this, she is wondering if there could be an alternate member. She has sent two
requests to the MIDC liaison, David Weeden and the Tribal Chair, Brian Weeden seeking
advice. Ms. Johnson-Graham also attempted to reach out and has not received a response.
Mr. Fand asked to try a different Select Board member, also Tracey Wilson is a member of the
Tri be.
New Member
This Committee has a vacancy for a voting member. The Chair has heard of some interest. A
gentleman provided his phone and e-mail with no response. She also received interest from a
parent of a preschooler who was a teacher in Barnstable. She would like to investigate a
procedure for alternate members and add that our plan.
NEW BUSINESS
Local Comprehensive Plan
The Town Planner asked the Chair for some feedback on the LCP update. She noted to the
Committee, when she volunteers at the school, the population seems more diverse than in the
overall community. She inquired if there is any data or charts that show the demographics of
the school population.
Ms. Hill answered that the student body is very diverse. On the state's website you can pull up
demographics from any school system in the Commonwealth. They get reporting on certain
populations, like with MCAS, meeting a certain threshold, or information on the English
language learner population. In the Mashpee school system, 7% of the students are
considered multi-language learners, and that has been on the rise every year. There are some
academic gaps between the majority typical and multi-language learners. The Chair would like
some of that data to be sent to Brian Tobin.
Strategic Plan
4
