For the past 5-6 years, more young people have moved in with more children. She too <br /> has had an accident coming around that corner 6 months ago, right behind Ace Hardware, you <br /> can't see around that corner. Never in her life has she had an accident. Her husband has seen <br /> other accidents. She doesn't see how this will work with that very narrow road. If there were <br /> more accidents coming up that way, who is responsible? Is it Shellback Way the development, <br /> the Town, and if there are lawsuits going on, what will happen? She doesn't know who will have <br /> to suffer. She loves Mashpee. It's becoming overloaded with business. <br /> Betsy Pratt- She is a Mashpee resident and is concerned with hearing about traffic and <br /> accidents. Mashpee has grown, part of the accidents are because there are more people. <br /> Mashpee Commons is building hundreds of condos and apartments, as well as New Seabury. <br /> The town has changed and it isn't what it was 35 years ago. It's part of the growth of the town. <br /> This proposed development has been going on for 6 years. This is the fourth year she attended. <br /> The Planning Board continues to delay; she is unclear if they are hopeful of the developer <br /> walking away. This proposal has been revised by the Commission, with detailed information <br /> and studies, which they approved, and its back before the Board. The Developer has provided <br /> studies, revisions, and improvements beyond the scope. What more is needed to move <br /> forward? Traffic is going to be there, and it will get worse. Maybe the answer is to stop the <br /> condos and apartments. Trader Joes will bring jobs and economic activity. When she goes to <br /> Hyannis to Trader Joes, she spends money in Hyannis at other business. That spending would <br /> stay in Mashpee and possibly reduce the traffic. It feels as though goal posts keep moving. If <br /> traffic at peak times is concerning there are practical solutions. Trader Joes has a police officer <br /> on busy days at a store she lived near, and that parking lot is a quarter of the size. Approve this <br /> p roj ect! <br /> Pam Wood- Thanked the Board for their hard work, she has been to a lot of meetings. The <br /> Commission approved this project. Her understanding is they set certain limits or standards, <br /> and the project has met those standards. That doesn't mean they approve Trader Joes going <br /> there. People keep talking about this specialty store being less expensive, but ALDI just opened <br /> in Falmouth. It's a specialty store and in Falmouth, they already have a store to go to. <br /> Cindy Varelli- She moved to Deer Crossing 10 years ago and is opposed to this project. She <br /> knows something will go in this space, and she probably won't be happy, but an ideal use would <br /> be some kind of office building, not a grocery store. She lives there, and it's all traffic where she <br /> can't get out of her neighborhood. <br /> David Gell- He lives in Deer Crossing and he thanked the Board. He noted Planning Board <br /> members Milbury and Faulkner led off with most of his thoughts. He has been a Deer Crossing <br /> resident for many years, and traffic and safety is not something we can shift off. If you're going <br /> to approve something of this impact, you need some solutions. He testified at all the Cape Cod <br /> 11 <br />
