of TMs s,s
z.
Aannin Board
16 Great Neck Road NOYth
Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Diane Hoffman- She thanked the Board for their efforts and due diligence. There is a lot of
traffic with people going around the rotary to go to Hyannis, that traffic is already there. Trader
Joes is a great employer, she knows many people who work for them. Why wouldn't we want
that? They provide lots of room for people to move up, when it comes to supermarkets, they
have the highest retention rates. This is a commercial lot and there are a lot of `not in my
backyard' people. This is a business with a great reputation being proposed on a commercial
I ot.
Dave Scott- He is a Mashpee resident who has spoken before. He wants to highlight what he
sees having come to several meetings. He is in favor for this project at this location. The last
remaining issue is traffic. Board members are not traffic experts. We should be relying on the
experts you hired. Tighe & Bond is a highly respected firm, in and around New England. Both
Bowman and T&B looked at data with respective limits. The Board should rely on the experts
and approve this application.
Nancy Sullivan- She lives in Deer Crossing and has heard a lot of people talk about residents
in the condos as if they are speaking on behalf of everyone. She doesn't want to be clumped
into an opinion she doesn't have. She is in favor of Trader Joes and she lives in the complex.
She is willing to make that trade off if it means not having to drive 25 minutes to Hyannis.
Regarding the comments about drivers, we need to stop making excuses for poor drivers, that
is another issue and people need to be patient. There is no comparison between Trader Joes
and ALDI.
Roslyn Robinson Mann- She has a front row seat to a lot of action around there as she lives
in the first building at Deer Crossing. She also witnessed the accident this morning, the cops
came within 5 minutes, and within 10 minutes there were 5 more officers. We will have to hire
more officers when all this stuff is approved. Months ago, she brought up other areas for this
project because she likes Trader Joes. It seems to her this area is too enclosed and doesn't
know how it will work. She also thinks if approved it will come back to bite everyone. The
condos are multigenerational and there are some seasonal users. A lot of the older folks don't
want to venture out to a night meeting here. She knows of a town where a bus would come and
bring elderly people to meetings.
Ms. Waygan noted the bus stop does not have shelter; she would like to implement a shelter.
The petitioner, Keely Higbie, returned with the petition of 1,800 signatures in a hard copy form.
She submitted the document into the record to the Chair.
Chair Waygan called for a 10-minute recess to read the document presented.
MOTION:
13
