<br /> <br />CPC Minutes—May 26, 2026 <br />Extra testing for PFAS—Then contact with State; already aware that eating the fish from Johns <br />and Ashumet is not recommended. Really want to know about recreational issues: children and <br />pets. Applicant is willing to provide the 1970s study; also available online. <br /> <br />Briefly addressed construction impact. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Recreation Application—not an Agenda item, but Recreation Director is present: <br /> <br />MOTION: To add the Recreation Application to the Agenda. <br />Motion by: Mary Waygan <br />Second by: Judy McDougall <br />Vote: Motion passed by unanimous vote <br /> <br />Mashpee Recreation Director, Mary Bradbury represents the applicant. Indicates the department <br />is hamstrung in terms of indoor programming space. 55% of the Town’s population is 55 years of <br />age and over. Presently, indoor space is within the schools. Additional indoor space would help <br />serve the older community. Town purchased 475 Nathan Ellis Highway—four rental units. <br />Looking at this for indoor space. Of the four available units, Mashpee Wildlife Refuge seeks to <br />use three. Rec. Director sees the project benefiting the community and potentially outside <br />groups. <br /> <br />CPC questions eligibility of rehab of the interior of the space as within CPA funding guidelines. <br />Discussion regarding funding of exterior rehab v. interior and whether this would be a legal <br />restriction. Exterior areas such as ramps, doors, windows, and outside rehab have been permitted. <br />Further discussion re CPC having approved bathrooms and HVAC. Possible need for legal <br />opinion. <br /> <br />Applicant questioned re project beginning: has started the concept design;but no work done. <br />Need for parking lot; two egresses. Discussion re ADA compliance. Relationship between <br />Friends of Wildlife and Town Department is unclear. Much additional information would be <br />required by the second week of July in terms of warrants, etc., indicating it is unlikely to be <br />accomplished before October. Applicant agrees that the timeframe is compressed. Should July <br />deadline not work, they will apply during next cycle.
