The purpose is defined in the general
bylaw. The AHC supports the long-term vitality of the
community and its residents, in safe, inclusive, and sustainable housing, across a continuum of
needs.
Ms. Muller asked about the word promote in terms of what we do, she likes it, but how does it
translate to their charge? She likes causing little to no damage to the environment, and in
perpetuity helps bring those environmental concerns. She would like to keep it on target, easily
understood, and concise. Housing is more than just meeting the SHI housing mark.
Mr. Sparkes answered whatwe want to accomplish is noted through the HPP, Zoning changes,
and educating the public. We value those outlets to achieve our goals.
Ms. Lanzillotta echoed that the values describe how you do it, and with what principles, that
will preserve and support the community long term.
Values
The AHC follows a set of core values that guide operation, planning, and decision making.
- Strive to lead the implementation of housing initiatives included in the HPP.
- Identify strategies for quality housing.
- Work collaboratively with the Town and Regional entities.
- Coordinate and make recommendations to the Affordable Housing Trust.
- Provide AHC with training and support to equip members.
- Educate the community about housing needs.
- Advocate and listen to residents.
The first bullets speak to actions, by implementing housing initiatives included in the LCP and
HPP. Differences in the first two bullets are the town adopting and continuing to identify new
strategies. The master plans are usually 10-20-year documents, but new opportunities arrive
constantly, so that means continuing to be active and creative. Other bullets focus on
collaborative efforts coordinating with other bodies. The last bullets pertain to education,
advocacy, training, and staff support.
3
