<br />Select Board <br />Minutes <br />June 22,2026 <br /> <br />Selectwoman Kelley-Wilson-yes <br />Selectman Richardson-yes <br />Selectwoman Wyman-Colombo-yes <br />Selectman Weeden-yes <br />Review of Recommendation for Award of Contract for Ashumet Pond Nutrient Inactivation <br />Treatment, Phase 2 Alum Treatment, to SOLitude Lake Management – Ashley Fisher, Water <br />Quality Coordinator <br />The Water Quality Coordinator, Ashley Fisher, presented the recommendation to award the <br />contract for the Ashumet Pond Nutrient Inactivation Treatment, Phase 2 Alum Treatment, <br />to Solitude Lake Management. Two bids were received from firms familiar to the Town. <br />Solitude Lake Management, which has successfully completed the previous alum <br />treatments at Ashumet Pond, submitted the lower bid. The project is funded through <br />Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds. <br />Fisher explained that the project is part of the Town's ongoing e?orts to improve water <br />quality while sewer expansion projects continue in the watershed. Fisher explained that the <br />project required extensive water quality sampling by UMass Dartmouth, followed by <br />preparation of a final report, permitting through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, <br />and the public bidding process. Fisher noted that the project has not experienced delays, <br />but that each step requires significant time to complete. <br />The treatment is planned for the fall, when conditions are most favorable. Fisher explained <br />that the pond is currently stratified and that applying the alum treatment during the <br />summer would reduce its e?ectiveness. <br />A Board member asked about the sensitivity of the alum application and whether there had <br />been any issues with the previous treatments. Fisher stated that Solitude Lake <br />Management completed the prior treatments without problems and conducted monitoring <br />during and after the work. Fisher added that phosphorus continues to enter the pond from <br />Joint Base Cape Cod, resulting in phosphorus accumulating in the pond sediments, making <br />it important to continue e?orts to reduce nutrient loading. <br />Motion made by Selectman Weeden to approve the Award of Contract for Ashumet <br />Pond Nutrient Inactivation Treatment, Phase 2 Alum Treatment, to SOLitude Lake <br />Management. <br />Motion seconded by Selectman Richardson. <br />10 <br /> <br /> <br />
