Town of Mashpee Conservation Commission <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee, MA 02649 <br /> • Upper Quashnet Restoration <br /> Staff provided an update on the Upper Quashnet Restoration Project. It was reported that the project has advanced to the <br /> final design stage and is expected to return to the Commission for permitting and approval before construction begins. <br /> Staff noted that the Commission last reviewed the project during the approximately 30 percent design phase and that the <br /> project has continued to progress toward implementation. <br /> • Johns Pond and Santuit Pond Milfoil <br /> Staff provided an update on ongoing milfoil management efforts at Johns Pond and Santuit Pond. It was <br /> reported that Johns Pond is being monitored for the presence of milfoil, and recent observations near the fish <br /> ladder have been forwarded to the project team for inclusion in ongoing evaluations and any future treatment <br /> planning. It was also reported that permitting for the proposed Santuit Pond treatment is underway. Public <br /> notification signs have been posted at the boat landing in advance of the project, and the recently <br /> reconstructed Santuit Pond boat landing has been completed and reopened for public use. <br /> • Chop Chaque Bog Restoration <br /> Staff provided an update on the Chop Chaque Bog Restoration Project. It was reported that the former <br /> cranberry bog, restored to an active wetland in 2023, continues to progress successfully, with increased <br /> wetland vegetation, improved wildlife habitat, and a growing presence of waterfowl. Staff also noted that <br /> ongoing monitoring has identified the need to remove encroaching pitch pines to maintain the site's intended <br /> grassland habitat. <br /> Staff reported that the Native Land Conservancy now holds the Conservation Restriction (CR) for the <br /> property and continues to oversee the project in partnership with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. Ongoing <br /> monitoring is focused on the establishment of native vegetation, including medicinal plant species. <br /> Staff explained that the project remains in the monitoring phase and that information gathered through <br /> monitoring, including observations of water retention and vegetation establishment, is expected to help inform <br /> the design and implementation of the Red Brook Restoration Project, which is being managed by the same <br /> consulting team. <br /> • Local Comprehensive Plan <br /> No update was provided on this item. <br /> 8 <br />
